Rebuilding Our Mission Project (ROMP) UPDATE
I am pleased to update everybody that the rebuilding of our beautiful church is progressing well, and the roof will start going up in the next couple of months.
The walls and roof rebuild phase is scheduled for competition by early 2027.
Meanwhile, after an extensive public consultation exercise, the Parochial Church Council (PCC) has submitted our plans to Derby Diocese for the design and reordering of the interior of the church for their consideration. This includes the design and choice of stained-glass windows, liturgical furniture and a new electric heating system.
We have also commissioned experts to repair the church bells and clock, and the intention is to do these repairs alongside the repair work to the tower and spire that needed to be done prior to the fire in December 2020. The PCC is exploring options for grant funding to make these works affordable so that the works can be done as part of the current walls and roof rebuild.
We have received feedback from the Church of England statutory consultation bodies, including Historic England, the Church Buildings Council and the Victorian Society, in relation to the interior design plans and the PCC is now responding to their queries.
We are expecting a response from the Diocese regarding our plans for the design and reordering of the interior of the church in the coming weeks.
A storyboard has been set up on the church site that shows our plans for all passersby, and visitors to read at their leisure.
